Why Does Bollywood Continue To Hob Nob With Questionable Businessmen?

Controversial liquor baron Ponty Chaddha was shot dead in Delhi today in what is being called as the result of a family dispute. Ponty Chaddha was also a prominent film distributor who with his Wave Cinemas was associated with films like Players (Viacom 18) and Jism 2 (Pooja Bhatt). There were reports that Ponty was also associated with Pooja Bhatt's Jism 3 and Cabaret. Ponty was a controversial figure and his meteoric rise in the real estate and liquor business was questionable. The fact remains that Bollywood continues to hob nob with people with questionable background and even more questionable sources of income.

  1. I can imagine that even here that same relationship exists..Frank Sinatra was one of the most controversial in that arena and others being tied to the wonderful world of the distasteful. No one likes to talk about it and many are funded in just such a way not being able to extricate themselves.
If we knew everything that happens we would probably be appalled to such an extent that riots would occur almost daily. But the event you mention here is just the tip of the iceberg if any more are to happen.

  2. There ought to be more transparency. When people from within the film industry who claim to be rightious and 'intellectual' end up hobnobbing with people with dubious credentials, the matters take an absolutely wrong turn.

  3. Transparency..yes that would be the way to go. But I think when people participate in that type of relationship we as observers will not see that. It either rubs off or like I said they cannot extricate themselves no matter how their image is presented. Maybe it becomes 'symbiotic' in nature. Money may make the world go 'round and it does provide for some 'comfy' friends...is that the bottom line?
