"Chulbul Pandey Is Not A Hero, Chulbul Pandey Is A Team Player": Salman Khan

Chaubey Ji and Bhayya Ji Smile are a couple of minor characters in Dabangg that became hugely popular. In an interview with Salman Khan, I asked him about various characters that have become hugely popular and this is what Salman had to say: "We've used a lot of the minor characters in Dabangg 2. Chulbul Pandey is not a hero, Chulbul Pandey is a team player. Jab tak team achchi hai, people in the film have been appreciated like Rajjo, Pandey ji, Tiwari ji, Chaubey ji, Makhanchand Pandey are very famous characters now. Everything is divided in this film. Hero is obviously the hero but everybody has an important character."

"Sonu Nigam's Voice Suits Me": Salman Khan

"We've been lucky with the music of Dabangg 2," said Salman Khan in an interview with me. "It is difficult to beat the music of Dabanng and we've almost done that in Dabangg 2. We've been very lucky with the music," Salman said. Could you elaborate on your thoughts on the music of Dabangg 2? "Pandey ji is a good song. Fevicol is an amazing song. There is a retro feel to Dabangg dabangg. There is a beautiful romantic song called Sanson Ne. Beautiful song," Salman said. Sanson Ne is sung by Sonu Nigam. Sonu has said in the past that maybe he has sung the maximum songs for Salman and he sounds very different whenever he sings for him. "He does. I think his voice suits me as well," Salman added.

Akshay Kumar And Asin's Fun Interview On Khiladi 786

Rani Mukerji On Aamir, Shahrukh, Salman And Saif

Himesh's English Album To Be Launched In The First Quarter Of 2013

In an interview with me today, Himesh Reshammiya said that he is planning to launch his English album @the edge in the first quarter of 2013. Himesh said that he requires 1-2 months for visiting various radio stations in the West so that the album is launched in a big way. Himesh thanked his fans with folded hands for always supporting him through thick-n-thick. He is willing to work with Salman Khan whenever Khan has a suitable project for him. Himesh also did an exclusive unplugged performance of all the Khiladi 786 songs in his studio with his musicians jamming in too. In my opinion, Saari Saari Raat is one of the best songs Reshammiya has sung in a long time.

Talaash: Gripping Cerebral Entertainment

Talaash is a gripping story that never tries to be over-the-top or larger-than-life and yet it is imbued with complex layers of human relationships that webs its charm on You the viewer. As you will unsew the jigsaw puzzle, you'll realise that everything is interlinked and nothing is forced to titillate or indulge in an undue scream for attention. At the same time it is not conventional entertainment and one needs to have the patience and sensitivity to delve into the plight of the principle characters to enjoy the suspense element of the film which is layered with the emotional drama punctuating the personal lives of the lead players.

Aamir lends a great deal of emotional and physical strength to his character which is oscillating between his professional assignment and the personal loss of losing his eight year old son in a freak accident. There's no ornamentation or undue masala herogiri to his police inspector avatar. He tucks his t shirt inside the jeans which wouldn't be advised by any suave designer but one has seen tough cops doing the same in real life. The capability of a great actor is judged from the manner in which he communicates without saying anything. Aamir does that brilliantly in Talaash. The scene where he breaks down in the end or how he confides in Kareena are testimony to sheer magic.

One would expect Aamir to be the mainstay of class acting in the film, but he also has Nawazuddin Siddiqui to share the spoils as well. Nawaz, the slightly disabled small time crook captivates attention with his smoldering eyes, crisp dialogues and a stunning chase sequence towards the climax of the film ensures that he carves out an important place in the film. He is an unlikely yet an important cog-in-the-wheel in the mystery.

Kareena Kapoor's over hyped Heroine didn't do much to bolster her acting credentials since the film didn't do justice to her enormous talent. But, Talaash finds her in top form and she looks delightfully beautiful too. She shares a crackling chemistry with Aamir even though they are not involved in a conventional romantic relationship. Her body language carries a delectable uninhibited elan that one could associate with a street walker.

Rani Mukerji wasted her wonderful talent in Aiyya but she redeems herself in Talaash. The vintage histrionics that one associates with Mukerji are in ample display. Like Aamir, Rani too stuns with minimal dialogues and lets her expressive eyes do the talking. Also, she looks far more beautiful with the economical  make-up in Talaash unlike the over-done-garish make up of her previous film.

Talaash is being touted as a suspense drama but there's more to it than summing it up in a genre. The suspense of the mysterious accident (or was it a murder) on the sea face is conjoined with Aamir and Rani's battered life post the death of their only son in an accident. Kareena plays an unusual role in the triangle-love-story and also impacts the sea face accident case.

The story screenplay by Reema Kagti and Zoya Akhtar is one of the finest in Indian cinema in the recent times. It is non linear and the complex dimensions add gravity. The opening credits sequence invariably reminds you of the opening credits sequence of Luck By Chance where a homage was paid to the film world. In the opening sequence of Talaash, the audio of Muskaane Jhooti Hain wafts along seductively and the 'real' Bombay stands up with its never-say-die spirit, unabashed street walkers and lonely ambitions chug along in a mad crowd of humanity.

Even though the story, screenplay is brilliant and Anurag Kashyap-Farhan Akhtar brand of dialogue are superb but still the slow pace of the film is a slight deterrent. Maybe the duration could have been trimmed by fifteen minutes. Anand Subaya's editing is seamless and the narrative blends well with the context of the setting of various scenes. Ram Sampath's music is one of the highlights of the film. Jee Le Zara, Muskaane Jhooti Hain, Laakh Duniya Kahe and Hona Hai Kya are brilliant songs with fantastic lyrics by Javed sahab. Ram's haunting background score is almost a character in the film itself.

Talaash is story telling at its best. Without a doubt it is one of the best films of the year and maybe the last decade as well. But as I've said before, it is not a film that may find appreciation from everyone. Even though it is a story that has a universal appeal and anyone can relate or at least empathise with it, but still it is different from staple entertainment that finds mass acceptance. It is cerebral entertainment at its best.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag Trailer Lives Up To My Expectations

Zinda hai to pyaala poora bhar de...that's how the Prasoon Joshi written line punctuates the Bhaag Milkha Bhaag trailer that will be launched tonight. On a personal note this is one film that I am eagerly awaiting. I have spoken to Rakeysh Mehra at two occasions about the film and he seems totally possessed by the film. It doesn't seem to be a 100 crore breast beating encore for him. He is a director who is passionate about story telling and the teaser lives up to my expectations and I am sure will by loved by one and all.

Farhan Akhtar has totally transformed himself into Milkha Singh. He looks exactly like the flying sikh. The final scene in the teaser has him flaunting a knife with a rivetting expression on the face. This must be the point of India-Pakistan partition when his key family members were killed. Shankar Ehsan Loy seem to be in full form if the Zinda number is any indication of what one can expect from other numbers. The movie releases in July next year and that's a long long wait.

"The Attacks Of 26/11 Is My Best Film, Better Than Satya": Ram Gopal Varma

"The Attacks of 26/11 is my best film," said Ram Gopal Varma in a no holds barred interview with me today. Is it better than Satya, I asked? "Yes, it's better than Satya," RGV replied. Mr Varma showed me an unreleased promo of the film. I've been critical of his works in the past and have openly expressed my reservations. But the promo that I saw of 'The Attacks Of 26/11' left me stunned. Being a Mumbaikar, I remember that night very clearly and snatching a few moments from it was a chilling experience. A women shot in the head from behind, a state of absolute disarray and blood spewing from hapless civilians.

RGV confirmed that he shall be shooting the dramatic manner in which Kasab's was hanged at Pune's Yerwada's Jail. Former ATS Chief Hemant Karkare's wife Kavita Karkare's is reportedly upset with Varma for showing Rakesh Maria (played by Nana Patekar) in a positive light. What is RGV's reaction to that? Is he ready for the backlash from fundamental religious groups? Answering back to his critics, detractors and once-upon-a-time-friends and now-turned-sympathisers who doubt his ability to cast a spell, this is what RGV had to say: "Without taking names, I can only say one thing...I know what I am doing."

Rani Mukerji On The Famous Train Scene Of Aamir In Ghulam

A fan Sushil Suthar from Jaipur had asked a question to Rani Mukerji in my interview:

What were you thinking when Aamir gave that train sequence in Ghulam?

Rani Mukerji's reply: That dus dus ki dod is one of the most famous sequences and it won quite a few awards for being the best scene. It was interesting, it was a whole gang of bikers and this fight between Deepak Tijori's gang and Aamir. There was this undercurrent of tension between Alisha and Siddhu at that point of time in the film. This whole scene was quite exciting because for the first time that you saw a character running towards a train rather than running away from it. Even while shooting, I was relatively new, I had only done Raja Ki Ayegi Baraat, I still hate night shooting, even then we shot it in the night. I used to be extremely sleepy on the shoot but this entire sequence was very interesting.

"Aamir, Kareena Or Myself...": Rani Mukerji

A fan Nikhil Seth from delhi had asked a question to Rani Mukerji in my interview

What is the most unusual thing about Talaash?

Rani Mukerji's reply: Can't reveal too much about the film, story or the character since it's a suspense drama.   Any lead to anything might lead to the story coming out. It will be very interesting to do an interview after the film releases so we can talk more about the character and how it all happened. What is really special (I won't call it unusual) that all three actors whether it is Aamir, Kareena or myself, we are coming with a film which is unusual for mainstream actors to do in the first place. I think that's very special, it's a very special story. Suspense dramas are not made in this fashion any more. The story is very very important.

I showed her two cards sent by Ranians from Indonesia and she saw it minutely for a long time and loved it immensely.

Aamir Answers To A Fan On Why Talaash Is Different From Other Suspense Films

A fan Debanjan Ghosh had asked Aamir in my interview, why is Aamir calling Talaash an unusual film, is this film different from other suspense films?

Aamir Khan's Reply: I hope so. I am hoping that it is different from other films that he has seen. When I say different then I mean there is a certain regular format that you have for mainstream cinema. Most of my films don't fall into that. Lagaan, Dil Chahta Hai, Taare Zameen Par, Rang De Basanti didn't fall into that. I think the films that are clearly mainstream are Fanah, Ghajini, 3 Idiots. Films like Rang De Basanti, Lagaan, Dil Chahta Hai, Sarfarosh are not clearly mainstream. They are mainstream but as the creative team we are always worried ke yaar hum logo kuch hat ke try kar rahe hain, pata nahin kya hoga. That concern is always there in us. Similarly for Talaash that concern is there in me.

We shot out one at a pool in the diving academy in Khopoli. We set an underwater stage there. After we shot out the first sequence there, we had a problem with the visibility in the water, the filtration units were not working the way we wanted them to, so we decided to shoot at a later date," explained Reema on the reason why the underwater sequence was later shot in London.

"Whenever You Are Handling 2 Women, It Is Always Difficult": Aamir Khan

In the making of Muskaanein Jhooti Hain (Talaash), Aamir compares Kareena with Madhubala from Howrah Bridge and almost immediately after praising Kareena, Aamir compliments Rani that she communicates emotions beautifully through eyes. When I asked Aamir about it in my interview with him and inquired if it is tough balancing things out while working with two beautiful, talented actresses, this is what Aamir said laughingly, "Whenever you are handling two women at the same time, it is always difficult. Let me be honest. Handling one woman is difficult." I think Kareena is looking fantastic in the Muskaanein number. "Both are looking beautiful," Aamir added as we laughed. "Seriously, both are extremely beautiful women and it is my privilege and pleasure to work with them. Rani is very beautiful and so is Kareena. They are both very beautiful human beings. I have had a long working relationship with Rani. She is such a pleasure to work with. Kareena is the same, I've worked with her for quite a while and she is just a delight to work with," Aamir said.

Why Does Bollywood Continue To Hob Nob With Questionable Businessmen?

Controversial liquor baron Ponty Chaddha was shot dead in Delhi today in what is being called as the result of a family dispute. Ponty Chaddha was also a prominent film distributor who with his Wave Cinemas was associated with films like Players (Viacom 18) and Jism 2 (Pooja Bhatt). There were reports that Ponty was also associated with Pooja Bhatt's Jism 3 and Cabaret. Ponty was a controversial figure and his meteoric rise in the real estate and liquor business was questionable. The fact remains that Bollywood continues to hob nob with people with questionable background and even more questionable sources of income.

Theaters To Shut Shop For The Weekend; Will Affect BO Collections Of JTHJ, SOS

The sad demise of Mr Bal Thackeray has resulted in cinema theater owners announcing that all cinema halls will be shut from today evening till tomorrow November 18 evening in Mumbai. It wouldn't be surprising that similar decision is taken by theater owners in other parts of Maharashtra. This will surely affect the Box Office collections of Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Son of Sardaar since Mumbai is a big market and Sunday was expected to show a big jump as it is a holiday.

Aamir To Shoot For CID Today

"Yes I Have A Script For My Next Directorial Venture": Aamir Khan

"I'm very keen to make my next film (as a director)," said Aamir Khan in an interview with me. There were reports that you have a script. "Yes I have a script. But the problem is that my time is so much time right now in my work as an actor. I am afraid that I have to hold back that script. Very beautiful story that I have got but I won't tell you much about since there is a long way to go for it," Aamir concluded.

"Crossing The Business Of 3 Idiots Is Not Easy": Aamir Khan

"I had no idea that 3 Idiots will do a business of more than Rs 200 crores. Ghajini was the first film that broke the Rs 100 crore barrier," said Aamir Khan in response to a fan's question if Talaash will break the Box Office record of 3 Idiots. "Crossing the business of 3 Idiots is not easy. 3 Idiots was three years ago and in these three years, film business has changed dynamically. The potential of business has doubled. I am surprised that no film has broken the record of 3 Idiots. 3 Idiots was released in less than 1500 screens, today films are releasing in 4000 screens. There is no logical reason why the record should not have been broken. Some film will come and break it," Aamir said. "Talaash is not a mainstream film the kind Dabanng is. Of course it is a mainstream film but it is not out and out masala kind of entertainer. It is a beautiful story, human story. It is a very emotional story. While it is a suspense drama, the core of the film is emotions," Aamir added.

November In Malaysia...first impressions

I arrivéd in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia in the wee hours of today morning. It was à five hour flight from Bombay and I must have hardly slept for à couple of hours. I am here along with my team for à promotional event of Tourism Malaysia. Yana Gupta is the prime attraction as she will promote the November sale. The journey by road from KL International Airport to Kuala Lampur is more than an hour. We stopped over at a South Indian restaurant (where this picture was clicked) for breakfast. This is my first time in Malaysia and the country and its people are very hospitable.

Aamir Khan To Start Endorsing Products Again?

"I've always done whatever makes me happy. I live for the moment and do what makes me happy. What makes me happy may not be logical. It's very illogical to stop your endorsements and cut off a major part of your earnings," said Aamir Khan in an interview with me about his decision to stop endorsing products. "I am not a logical person. I am an emotional person. I go with my heart. I do what I feel like doing. I do what makes me happy. Often what makes me happy, tactically, practically the correct thing to do as understood by most people. But I am happy," Aamir said. As of now you won't be endorsing any product? "I was very keen not to be endorsing any product for the first season of Satyamev Jayate, that is now concluded, I have not thought about it quite honestly. There is nothing wrong in endorsing a product. I am happy to endorse as I am happy that the product can be used. I would like to use it myself. Until I am satisfied, I don't endorse it. When I was doing Satyamev Jayate, I didn't want to be seen doing anything else. It may not be logical. I was just following my heart," Aamir explained. But since you do so few films, at least your ad films are something that your fans can enjoy on television. "A lot of my fans told me that we enjoy your ads. Your films come after three years so at least we get to see your Ads. So, I can start again. There is no hard and fast rule," Aamir concluded.

Aamir Khan Talks About Why 'Less' Is 'More' For 'Talaash' Marketing

"Each film has its own requirements. I believe you should be honest with the film. The kind of film it is should be presented to people in the same manner," said Aamir Khan in an interview with me in response to the marketing plans of Talaash and when the marketing wave will pick up in a big way. "Talaash is a suspense drama. The less we say about it, the better. We want you to be curious about it. We want you to search in your own way for information about the film. So, it will be very difficult for you to take information out of me (laughs)," Aamir added.

"Lootera Is My Best Performance As An Actress": Sonakshi Sinha

"Lootera has been my most difficult performance so far. Personally for me, my best performance as well," said Sonakshi Sinha in an interview with me. "Lootera gave me an opportunity to get out of my comfort zone," Sonakshi said. "A certain trend of heroine centric film is going on right now. Some of them are doing very well. I don't want to do it just for the sake of it. Everyone who is doing it are doing it after five, six, seven, eight years of being in the industry. It is only my second year in the industry. I have a lot of time to do that. Right now I am having my fun. I am doing films that I would like to see on big screen, big films, larger than life films, where I get the chance to sing and dance, do my bit and be a part of a good big film," Sonakshi added.

"Salman Is So Lovable...": Ajay Devgn

"Salman Is Very Very Watchable": Ajay Devgn

"Salman is in a  position right now that he is so lovable on screen that even if he is casual, he is lovable," said Ajay Devgn in an interview with me. "He has got that comfort zone, he is enjoying himself in front of the camera. He is very very watchable. Even if he doing nothing, he is watchable," Ajay added.

"Kabhi Haan Kabhi Kabhi Naa, One Of My Most Special Films": SRK

"Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa was one of my most special films since it was one of my first few films," said Shahrukh Khan in an interview with me on November 3, 2012. "Some of the scenes in the film were completely contrary to what the script says. My heart would say it and I would do it. There was a scene between Suchitra and Deepak (Tijori) where they are kissing each other and I watch it. The scene is that I am supposed to keep looking and feel really sad. I used to run away each time the camera was put on. They used to catch me and I would run away and tell me that Shahrukh you have to stand here. I said no, if a girl I love is being kissed by another guy then I have to beat him. This guy looks big , I can't beat him so I am going to run away. There was a lot of honesty and earnestness in that film. I think it is beautiful to be in love like that where you keep on lying, not cheating, to get things done because you are not so attractive. The character is based on a book where the character is not good looking, physically, not the kind of person a girl would go for but he just loved her madly and doesn't get her in the end," Shahrukh said.

"My Film With Saif Will Be His Biggest Grosser Ever": Sajid Khan

Sajid Khan in an interview with me confirmed that his next film after 'Himmatwala' is a film starring Saif Ali Khan and Riteish Deshmukh. "It's Saif like never before. It's going to be Saif's most challenging role. Saif is going to be doing what you can never expect him to do. I can give you my word that it is going to be his biggest grosser ever. It will have Saif and Riteish do things which they've never done before," Sajid said. The film with Saif and Riteish will start in all probability in June, July 2013, and will be releasing in the summer of 2014. The heroine has not been decided. Sajid is writing the script along with Sanjay Chel. Dialogues in all probability will be written by Sajid-Farhad.

Dream Lives On Amongst Memories...The SRK, Katrina, Anushka Interview

I did an interview with Shahrukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma yesterday November 3, 2012. The interview was conducted at the YRF Studios. As I entered the gates of the grand Studio, it suddenly dawned on me that the last time that I had visited this place was for Mr Yash Chopra's birthday on September 27, 2012. He was in such great spirits then that it is hard to imagine that the man who spoke for two hours on his birthday, going down the memory lane, laced with funny anecdotes, is not around any more. As I walked towards the reception, I saw work going on in full swing in one of the studios. That's where the premiere will be held and it is very apparent that every possible effort is being made to ensure that November 12, 2012 will be one of the biggest nights in Bollywood ever.

The interview with the three stars started on a sombre note as we discussed Yash ji and the void that he has left behind. I had received many questions from all across the world, from places like Lima in Peru, Switzerland, Paris, Morocco, USA etc. The conversation just flowed and when we ended, our cameraman Tahir Shaikh told me that the duration of the interview was around 38 minutes. I couldn't take many questions and I feel bad about it because some of the questions sent by the fans were brilliant and entertaining. I guess we shall be breaking this interview in four parts. Hopefully, you all will like it.
